Your machine
How to tell which you have
- One model: this manual covers the Refresher 30 in, which cleans a 30 in (76 cm) path with three 10 in (25 cm) heads and runs on the Kawasaki FS481V PurePowerLPG engine.
- Check your serial number for the gearbox: Aztec's gearbox drawing (page 33) is for serial number 0420001058 and up. For lower serial numbers, Aztec asks you to contact them.
How to read this list
Our part numbers are the Aztec number with AZ in front, so Aztec 212-1 is AZ212-1. A few of our part numbers space or hyphenate the number differently from the manual; those lines say how Aztec prints it. Each line shows the item number on the drawing. Blue part numbers open the part page. Lines marked Call to confirm part are not listed online yet; call 800-440-6723 and we will source them. Prices were current on ; your cart always shows the current price. Have your machine serial number ready when you call.

New to your Aztec Refresher? Start here
Set up, run and look after your Refresher. Everything here comes from Aztec’s owner’s manual, rewritten in plain steps, with the parts you need linked to the list above.
1Check it before every start
- Park on a level surface. Turn the engine switch off and close the propane tank valve.
- Look around and under the machine for oil leaks and damage. Clear dirt and debris, especially around the muffler, and make sure all shields, covers, nuts, bolts and screws are in place and tight.
- Check the engine oil level and the air filter element (AZ309-11013-7049). Do the first oil change after the first 8 hours of use.
- Soap-test the LPG tank (AZ293-20#STLMF), lines and connections every time you fill or connect the tank. Repair any leak before you run the machine.
- Connect the high pressure hose to the tank hand tight, never with a tool. Fill the water tank (AZ010-971MGT) if you are working wet.

2Change drivers, brushes and pads
- With the engine off and the tank valve closed, tilt the machine back and secure it. Because of its weight, have a second person help.
- To remove a pad driver (AZ042-1-P), diamond driver (AZ042-1-D) or strip brush (AZ042-1-S), turn it about 1/8 turn clockwise to release it from the spring clip.
- To install one, line up the three lugs on top of the driver with the holes in the drive plate. Turn it counterclockwise until it clicks and locks into the spring clip.
- Pull Velcro diamond pucks off from the center out, never from the outside edge. Leave the tape on strip brushes.
- Center each new pad on its driver. Never flip a pad: keep the same side down for its whole life.

3Start and run it
- Set the handle to a comfortable position and lock it with the pin.
- Open the LPG tank valve by turning it counterclockwise. Set the throttle to SLOW.
- Start the engine. Don’t run the starter more than 5 seconds at a time: longer overheats the starter motor and can damage it.
- Once it starts, set the throttle to the speed you want and follow the machine straight ahead at a moderate walk. Keep moving: running in one spot damages the floor.
- Wear ear protection, and never tilt the machine back while the engine is running.
Source: Aztec Refresher 30” Owner’s Manual (11-2025), pages 7, 8, 12, 13 and 22. SES ref PF-26FC-EDR2
4Shut down, clean up and store
- Turn the key switch off, then close the propane valve by turning it clockwise.
- Empty the leftover water from the water tank.
- Tilt the machine back, tighten any loose nuts and bolts, and rinse between the top of the brushes and the brush plates, around the splash skirt and the body. Don’t spray water into the brush drive above the large main plate.
- Set it level and run it 2 to 3 minutes to throw off the water.
- Take the propane tank off and store it outside in a secure, well-ventilated area.

Aztec Refresher troubleshooting
Problems, likely causes and fixes from Aztec's troubleshooting pages. Turn the engine switch off and close the propane tank valve before any service.
| Likely cause | Fix | Part |
|---|---|---|
| Engine cranks but won’t start | ||
| Propane tank empty or shutoff valve closed | Refill the propane tank (AZ293-20#STLMF) or open the valve. | |
| Fuel or vacuum line clogged, kinked or cut | Clear the line or replace it. | |
| Spark plug lead off, or a faulty ignition coil or kill switch | Reconnect the lead to the spark plug (AZ309-92070-7004). Replace a faulty coil or switch. | |
| Faulty regulator | Replace the regulator (AZ152-500). | |
| Engine starts hard | ||
| Choke or throttle set wrong, or low compression | Set the controls to the right position. For low compression, have a trained technician service the engine. | |
| Engine won’t crank | ||
| Battery run down (a key left ON drains it) | Charge or replace the battery (AZ276-GTX14). Turn the key off whenever the engine is off. | |
| Loose or faulty wires, or a faulty key or starter switch | Take the propane tank and battery box cover off. Tighten, repair or replace wires, clean corroded battery posts, and repair or replace a faulty key switch (AZ312-308-0385). | |
| Engine overheats | ||
| Air intake filter screen or cooling fins clogged | Clean out the debris or replace the filter. | |
| Low oil, or fuel settings wrong | Check the oil and add oil. For fuel settings, have a trained technician service the engine. | |
| Exhaust or propane smell | ||
| Dirty air filter, or loose fittings or clamps, or cracked, cut or leaking hoses | Replace the air filter (AZ309-11013-7049). Tighten or seal fittings, then soap-test them and replace any part that still bubbles. | |
| Engine runs but the drive unit won’t turn | ||
| Belts off the input pulley or clutch, or belt tension spring unhooked | Take the belt cover off and check the tension spring (AZ173-042) is on its mount bolt. Put the engine belt (AZ113-L538) back on; if it comes off again, it is worn or stretched and needs replacing. | |
| Frost on the LPG lines or regulator | ||
| Propane tank overfilled | Stop: running it this way causes damage. Have the excess propane removed safely before you run it again. The regulator may need to defrost before restarting. | |

Common Aztec Refresher parts questions
How do I take the drivers off an Aztec Refresher?
Tilt the machine back and secure it, then turn the driver about 1/8 turn clockwise to release it from the spring clip. To put one on, line up its three lugs with the holes in the drive plate and turn it counterclockwise until it clicks.
Source: Aztec Refresher 30” Owner’s Manual (11-2025), pages 14 and 15. SES ref PF-E77O-WQBN
Why does my Refresher engine run but the drive unit won’t turn?
Usually the main drive belt or its tension spring. Check whether the belts came off the input pulley or centrifugal clutch, or the spring came off its mount bolt. If the belts keep coming off, they are worn or stretched and need replacing.
Source: Aztec Refresher 30” Owner’s Manual (11-2025), page 17. SES ref PF-E77O-WQBN
How often do I grease the pillow block bearing on the Refresher?
Every 10 hours. The bearing is part of the lower brush drive and is shown on the input pulley drawing. Aztec says skipping it voids the warranty.
Source: Aztec Refresher 30” Owner’s Manual (11-2025), pages 7 and 32. SES ref PF-E77O-WQBN
How often do I change the oil on a Refresher?
After the first 8 hours, then every 50 hours. Change the oil filter every 100 hours. The FS481V engine takes 1.8 US qt (1.7 L) with the filter removed.
Source: Aztec Refresher 30” Owner’s Manual (11-2025), pages 19 and 20. SES ref PF-E77O-WQBN
What propane tank does the Refresher use?
A 20 lb (5 gal) vertical vapor-withdrawal cylinder with an overfill protection device. Aztec says other cylinders, including liquid-withdrawal ones, are dangerous and void the warranty.
Source: Aztec Refresher 30” Owner’s Manual (11-2025), pages 6 and 8. SES ref PF-E77O-WQBN
Which gearbox parts fit my Refresher?
Aztec’s gearbox drawing is for serial number 0420001058 and up. For a lower serial number, Aztec asks you to contact them, so have your serial number ready.
Source: Aztec Refresher 30” Owner’s Manual (11-2025), page 33. SES ref PF-E77O-WQBN
Can I use the Refresher on a slope?
No. Aztec says not to use it on surfaces with a gradient over 2%.

Notes on this parts list
Places where Aztec's drawings, parts lists and text disagree, and how this page handles them. If you are unsure, call 800-440-6723 with your serial number.
- Aztec's gearbox drawing (page 33) is marked for serial number 0420001058 and up. For lower serial numbers, Aztec asks you to contact them. Call us with your serial number before ordering gearbox parts.
- The gearbox drawing on page 33 is a low-resolution scan. Two callouts are hard to read: we read the one at the left idler pulley as 26 (HEX NUT 3/8-16) and the one below the drive plate as 25 (STUD 5/8-11 X 1½). Call to confirm before ordering either.
- The handle drawing (page 28) shows callout 25 twice, but the handle parts list on page 29 stops at item 24. There is no line for 25.
- The regulator drawing (page 37) shows callout 7 on the regulator body, but the regulator parts list stops at item 6. There is no line for 7.
- The engine parts list (page 39) skips item 19, and the engine drawing has no callout 19.
- The input pulley assembly 042-962S1 is item 1 on the drive unit list (page 31) and item 10 on the input pulley list (page 32); it has no number on the page 32 drawing. The footnote on page 31 says it includes “Ref #s 2, 6, 7, 8 & 9”: those are item numbers on the page 32 list, not page 31.
- Aztec prints 164-5100-100 as SNAP RING CENTER SHAFT on the input pulley list (page 32) and as OUTER SHAFT SNAP RING on the gearbox list (page 34). The gearbox list's CENTER SHAFT SNAP RING is a different number, 164-5100-118.
- 164-22834 is printed as “3/8-16 STOVER 10K-NUT” on the handle list (page 29) and “3/8-16 STOVER LOK-NUT” on the transport wheel list (page 36).
- The tensioner list (page 35) prints 164-22004 as “HEX NUT 3/6-16”. The deck and gearbox lists (pages 27 and 34) print the same number as HEX NUT 3/8-16.
- Engine list items 6 and 8 are both printed as 309-92192-7164, TUBE AIR CLEANER FS481. Item 13 on the engine drawing covers the air filter cover plus its wing nut and O-ring (2 of each); all three lines are listed.
- Aztec prints 199-NHNT-SE UND with a space and 042-962i with a lower-case i. Our part numbers are AZ199-NHNT-SE UND (space kept) and AZ042-962i.
- Page 8 says running the electric starter more than 5 seconds at a time overheats the starter motor; the starting steps on page 12 say no more than 10 seconds. This page uses 5 seconds.
- The maintenance meter flashes every 25 hours as a lube and oil-change reminder (page 14), but the oil-change steps and schedule (pages 19 and 20) say every 50 hours after the first 8. This page follows the schedule.
