Your machine
How to tell which you have
- Measure the path: the 30 in Sidewinder cleans a 30 in (76 cm) path and the 24 in a 24 in (61 cm) path. The 30 in is also wider overall: 32.75 in (83 cm) against 26.5 in (67 cm).
- Steel body only: this manual covers the steel-body Sidewinder with the Kawasaki FS481 engine. Aztec stopped stocking parts for the older fiberglass-body machine in 2015.
- Many parts fit both: the size only changes the belts, boom, input pulley, top pan, steel plate, brush drive cover, splash skirt and brush drive assembly.
How to read this list
Our part numbers are the Aztec number with AZ in front, so Aztec 212-1 is AZ212-1. Where Aztec prints a space inside a number (010-962 I), our part number drops it (AZ010-962I). Each line shows the item number on the drawing. Blue part numbers open the part page. Lines marked Call to confirm part are not listed online yet; call 800-440-6723 and we will source them. Prices were current on ; your cart always shows the current price. Have your machine serial number ready when you call.

New to your Aztec Sidewinder? Start here
Set up, run and look after your Sidewinder. Everything here comes from Aztec’s owner’s manual, rewritten in plain steps, with the parts you need linked to the list above.
1Check it before every start
- Park on a level surface. Turn the engine switch off and close the propane tank valve.
- Look around and under the machine for oil leaks, damage, and loose nuts, bolts or covers.
- Check the oil level and the air filter element (AZ309-11013-7049). Do the first oil change after 8 hours of use.
- Soap-test the tank, lines and fittings every time you fill or connect the LPG cylinder (AZ293-20#STLMF). Fix any leak before you run the machine.

2Put brushes or pads on
- With the engine off and the tank valve closed, tilt the machine back and secure it.
- Strip brushes and pad drivers are left-hand threaded: turn clockwise to loosen and counterclockwise to tighten. Turning the wrong way shears the bolt head.
- Center each new pad on its pad driver (AZ010-962STP). Never flip a pad: keep the same side down for its whole life.
- Leave the tape on the strip brushes (AZ010-962STBH). Taking it off shortens brush life.
- Set the machine back down level before you start.

3Start stripping
- Set the handle to a comfortable height and lock it with the pin.
- Open the LPG tank valve by turning it counterclockwise.
- Set the throttle to SLOW and turn the key to START. Don’t run the starter more than 10 seconds at a time.
- Once it starts, move the throttle to the speed you want and follow the machine forward at a moderate walk. Keep moving: standing in one spot damages the floor.

4Shut down, clean up and store
- Close the tank valve (turn it clockwise), then turn the key off.
- Tilt the machine back and rinse the splash skirt, body and underside. Don’t spray water into the drive unit through the brush bolt openings.
- Now and then, shake out the foam hat dust filter (AZ186-271964), rinse it with water and mild detergent, squeeze it out and let it air dry.
- Set it level and run it 2 to 3 minutes to throw off the water.
- Take the propane tank off and store it outside in a secure, well-ventilated area.

Common Aztec Sidewinder parts questions
Which way do Aztec Sidewinder brushes and pad drivers unscrew?
Clockwise. They are left-hand threaded: turn clockwise to loosen and counterclockwise to tighten. Turning them the wrong way shears the bolt head.
Source: Aztec Sidewinder 24” & 30” Owner’s Manual (03-2025), page 14. SES ref PF-5FZE-CEY3
Why does my Sidewinder engine run but the brushes don’t turn?
Usually the engine belt or its tension spring. Check whether the belt came off the input pulley or centrifugal clutch, or the spring came unhooked. If the belt keeps coming off, it is worn or stretched and needs replacing.
Source: Aztec Sidewinder 24” & 30” Owner’s Manual (03-2025), pages 18 and 19. SES ref PF-5FZE-CEY3
How often do I change the oil on a Sidewinder?
After the first 8 hours, then every 50 hours. Change the oil filter every 100 hours. The engine takes 1.8 US qt (1.7 L) with the filter removed.
Source: Aztec Sidewinder 24” & 30” Owner’s Manual (03-2025), pages 21 and 22. SES ref PF-5FZE-CEY3
What propane tank does the Aztec Sidewinder use?
A 20 lb (5 gal) vertical vapor-withdrawal cylinder with an overfill protection device. Aztec says other cylinders, including liquid-withdrawal ones, are dangerous and void the warranty.
Source: Aztec Sidewinder 24” & 30” Owner’s Manual (03-2025), page 5. SES ref PF-5FZE-CEY3
Why do the brushes stop when I slow the Sidewinder down?
The centrifugal clutch disengages below 1,800 rpm, so the brushes or pads stop turning.
Source: Aztec Sidewinder 24” & 30” Owner’s Manual (03-2025), page 13. SES ref PF-5FZE-CEY3
What is the difference between the 24 in and 30 in Sidewinder?
Path width, head pressure and several drive parts. The 24 in puts 241 lb (109 kg) on the floor and the 30 in 288 lb (130 kg), and each size has its own belts, boom, pulley, plates and splash skirt. Pick your size above the parts list to see only your parts.

Can I use the Sidewinder on a slope?
No. Aztec says not to use it on surfaces with a grade over 2%.

Notes on this parts list
Places where Aztec's drawings, parts lists and text disagree, and how this page handles them. If you are unsure, call 800-440-6723 with your serial number.
- The 30 in rear wheel splash belting (3 ft) is printed with no part number. The 24 in line (2.5 ft) is 176-SPSK. Call us to confirm the 30 in belting.
- The engine drawing (page 32) shows callout 19, but the engine parts list on page 33 skips item 19. It is not on this page.
- Engine list items 6 and 8 are both printed as 309-92192-7164, TUBE AIR CLEANER FS481.
- Item 13 on the engine drawing covers the air filter cover plus its wing nut and O-ring (2 of each). All three lines are listed.
- Aztec prints two part numbers with a space: 010-962 I (upper drive belt tensioner) and 010-962 I I / 01024-962 I I (lower drive belt tensioners). Our part numbers drop the space: AZ010-962I, AZ010-962II and AZ01024-962II.
- The belt troubleshooting text (page 18) points to the Upper Drive diagram on “page 26” for the 30 in and “page 29” for the 24 in. The upper drive drawing for both sizes is on page 28; the lower drive is on page 29.
- The maintenance meter flashes every 25 hours as an oil-change reminder (page 17), but the oil-change steps and schedule (pages 21 and 22) say every 50 hours after the first 8. This page follows the schedule.
- The spec sheet lists the engine warranty as 2 years/500 hours; the owner’s manual warranty page says 2 years from the engine manufacturer.
- Aztec names 186-271964 “FOAM HAT FILTER KW” in the engine list and “Debris Filter (Foam Hat)” in the maintenance kit, and 309-11013-7046 “PRE FILTER CLEANER” and “Pre Filter (Foam Hat)”. Both numbers are on this page as printed.
- Descriptions are copied as Aztec prints them, including its spellings (for example AXEL & NUT).
