Your machine
How to tell which you have
- Model and serial number: both are on the serial plate on the black box. The manual covers the KV1750 from serial 13409, the KV1715 from serial 409 and the CE1750 from serial 497.
- KV1715 or KV1750: the KV1715 has its own pump (manual page 3-13) and its own accessory kit; the KV1750 uses pump assembly PA217.
- CE1750: the 240V version. Its pump, vac motor and black box have their own 240V part numbers.

Our part numbers are the Kaivac number with KV in front, so Kaivac CSS144 is KVCSS144. Kaivac labels parts on its drawings by part number, not item number: the On drawing column shows the label exactly as printed, and tapping it on the drawing highlights the line. Blue part numbers open the part page. Lines marked Call to confirm part are not listed online yet; call 800-440-6723 and we will source them. Set up, run and look after your 1700 Series. Everything here comes from Kaivac's operator and parts manual, rewritten in plain steps, with the parts you need linked to the list above.
1Set it up out of the box
- Wrap the placard (KVPLCRD) around the push handles. Set the tote bag (KVTBAG) aside for the extra tools.
- Slide the vac wand (KVOFVWGB) sections together until the locking pin clicks in.
- Fit the plastic elbow to the vac tank. Attach the vac motor hose (KVVMH27A) to the elbow and the vac motor inlet.
- Make sure the dump hose is on its cap and tether, and the vac lid is on the tank.

2Get ready to clean
- Fill the water tank with clean, cool water.
- Put the chemical feed line and cap on your chemical bottle. Pick the tip the placard shows from the metering tip pack (KVMTIPSNEW).
- With a high-foaming chemical, pour 2 capfuls of foam inhibitor into the vac hose with the vac running.
- Check every hose and spray line. If you find damage, stop until it is repaired.
- Plug in and test the GFCI on the GFCI power cord (KVCES19A).

3Clean with the S.I.M.P.L.E. steps
- Set up: fill with clean, cool water, add 1 cap of KaiDri for spot-free rinsing and put the metering tip in the cap barb.
- Inject: spray the chemical in low pressure mode with a fan spray.
- Brush heavily soiled areas by hand.
- Rinse: pressure wash with fresh water in high pressure mode, with a fan spray.
- Extract: vacuum up the water.

4Empty and rinse the vac tank
- Disconnect the dump hose (KVDH22) and drain the tank in the proper place.
- Take off the vac lid. Rinse the inside of the tank with the pressure gun or another water source.
- Lock the front caster wheels. Tip the machine to the left and slightly forward to drain the rest.
- Put the dump hose back on and unlock the wheels.

How do I empty the vac tank on a Kaivac 1700 Series?
Disconnect the dump hose and drain it in the proper place. Take off the vac lid and rinse the tank, then lock the front casters and tip the machine left and slightly forward to drain the rest.

How often do I change the HEPA filter on a Kaivac 1700 Series?
Every 3 to 6 months, depending on use. A clogged HEPA filter also causes weak suction and moisture from the exhaust.

Why is the vacuum weak on my Kaivac 1700 Series?
Common causes are a full vac tank, a dirty float screen or stuck float, worn squeegee blades or wheels, a loose access lid, or a plugged hose or HEPA filter.

Why won't the pump or vac motor on my Kaivac 1700 turn on?
Check that it's plugged in, the switches are on, the GFCI isn't tripped and the building circuit isn't overloaded. If those are fine, unplug it and check for loose wires under the panel.

Which metering tip should I use on my Kaivac?
Use the tip the placard lists for your chemical. The placard wraps around the push handles.

Are the two dump hose caps on the Kaivac 1750 interchangeable?
No. One cap is tethered to the machine and the other to the hose, and Kaivac says they are not interchangeable.

Can I use other chemicals in a Kaivac 1700 Series machine?
Yes, if Kaivac approves them, with the standard 1-year parts and labor warranty. Chemicals Kaivac hasn't approved have no warranty. Using only Kaivac chemicals extends the warranty up to 5 years on rotomolded parts.

- Pump drawing (page 3-12) prints WI1750; Kaivac's parts list prints WL1750, Water Line for 1750. This page uses WL1750.
- Switch panel drawing (page 3-16) prints CPS50B; the 3-way valve list (page 3-20) prints CPS50A, 3-way brass valve. Our catalog's KVCPS50B is a black knob, so both lines say call to confirm.
- Vac motor: the drawing and list heading say VMA1700; the black box list line is VMA1700R (HE 120V). Both are on this page.
- Older vac motors: serial 1 to 5449 used CVS01R (2-stage); serial 5450 to 12619 used CVM1R. VMA1700 is standard on KV1750 serial 12620 and later and KV1715 serial 401 and later (drawing page 3-14).
- Page 3-12 says the 1715 pump assembly is on "page 17"; it is manual page 3-13. Page 3-11 has a "See page ?" note Kaivac never filled in.
- Kaivac's descriptions are copied as printed, including its spellings (for example SWITCH PANAL).
